STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL - JUNE 16

Americans have been eating strawberry shortcake since the 1850’s. Parties celebrating the onset of summer featured hot shortcake with butter and smothered in sweet cream and freshly picked strawberries. Yum!
That tradition continues in Evansville.

On June 16, 2017, the Evansville Education Foundation will host a strawberry festival to celebrate the return of summer and raise funds for its mission of supporting the local school district through a variety of programs.

Some changes from those earliest of strawberry events have occurred. First, no butter will be served. Second, gluten-free biscuits will be offered, in addition to the regular variety.

The event will be at the former Masonic Temple, as in previous years, starting at 5 PM and lasting until… the shortcake is gone! Last year, anyone arriving after 7 PM was disappointed: nothing remained to be served.
